Opposites Atrract & Amgios Para Sempre
So Canada was great, I headed to Italy for a 2 weeks and then had a last minute Easter in Spain...here is the low down.
On the plane to Italy, the guy sitting in the exit row passed out mid flight, it made me a little nervous when they called for a Doctor but he was ok in the end, I admit I was mildly distracted by the French man that I was sitting next to. He used to live in Dee Why and asked me to visist him in Cannes if I am ever in the area....oui oui!
ROME. If you follow the saying 'When in Rome.... well I guess that means smoke like a chimney and drive like a mental case. I threw a coin into the Trevi fountain, sat on the Spansish steps, queeded for 1 1/2 hours to see the Sistine Chapel , walked in the Collesum, the Roman Forum, the Pathenon. Its a massive city, I just walked around for hours and looked at thing and stumbled across lane ways and Palazza's and ate such awesome food.
PISA. Not much going on here apart from a bit of leaning, that tower is really wonky! Got a late night phone call from Gemma, she informed me that Anthony Callea is gay, gee you think you know some one then this happens!
FIRENZE. Was great, really like it, it is busy but different to Rome, there are awesome markets and stalls all over the streets I bought so many cashmere scarfs I dont know how they are fitting in my bag. Just near the markets there was a old dude busking ,he was crankin out Opposite Attracts on an Accordian, at first I wasn't sure but I stuck around just in case and it defo was. I queded for 2 1/2 hours to get into the Uffizi, saw the Birth of Venus - Bottecelli obviously had a thing for red heads, most of the chicks in his paintings where ginger ningers. Also saw the Staue of David, which was really impressive and huge, that que was 3 hours 15 mins. Climed up 463 steps to the top of the Duomo which is a big arse church in the middle of town. I was shaking like a leaf as you go so far up and there is only a thin bit of perspex stopping you from falling but I guess if you fall and die in a church you are in good hands.
VENICE. Unreal. I meet up with a friend of a friend who works in Venice so he took me out for a few drinks with his friends and we hit a few bars and drank Spritz which it the 'Venice drink'.
I woke up on my third day convincied I was dying, covered in small red spots. I finally ventured out for a wander and remebered that there is a lot of rank water in Venice, which attracts mosquitos. If one leaves their hostel window open at night, one might get a little bitten on the face. So crisis avverted, window stayed closed for the remaining night and no self potriats were taken. Venice -1, Me -0
Went to the Peggy Guggenheim some Dali's and Picassos. There was a Aqua Alta warming, which is a high tide, so its like walking around in one big puddle!
Caught the ferry out to Murano, where they make all the glass which was cool, kind of like looking through the round window on play school.
VERONA. Visited Juliet's house from Shalesphere which was sweet. Rubbed her statue for good luck in love and wandered a bit.
MILAN. Stayed in a total crack den wich was moon lighting as a hotel.
Walked around all the fancy shops, saw the 'Daniela boutique' admired all the good looking people, bought some stuff. Wished I had more money and room in my suitcase.
Then last minute made plans to meet Gemma in BARCELNOA!!! - Its in capitals so you have to scream it because it is soooo awesome and exciting!!!
It was Easter so their where parades going on all over the streets with thousands of people marching and following and these are going on till midnight or later. We stayed just of Las Ramblas, which is the main drag in the city and in the Gothic Area, there are hundreads of street performas and artists and dudes selling pigeons, blue roses and kittins on the streets. We went to a few museums, mainly Gaudi's who was a hella famous arcitect and designed houses, churches and parks all over the city that look like some thing that Dr Suess would live in. The best was definately the La Sagrada Familia which is a church that he stated building in 1882 and is still not finished, it takes up a whole block.
Went to the Mercat de la Boqueria which is a massive food market. Walked all over the city, braved the Metro and went out to few things. Ate Tapa Tapa Tapas and the best Seafood Paella and then also unfortunatly the worst, drank litres of Sangria and happy hour cocktails. It was such a good time and now I defo want to go see a whole lot more of Spain.
The whole time we were there, Gemma was singing Amigos Para Sempre (from the Olympic's), which was funny the first day then not so much, but on the bus to the Airpot it was playing on the radio, the long extended version which I had to laugh at, either that or cry.
So now I am at Gemma's house in London, having a pit stop before going to Paris in a week or so, then dont know but I am sure it will be good.
Peace out
