Monday Angst

I did nothing on the weekend, really I mean nothing. I went to the supermarket but that does not count, I went for a few walks but they don't count either and I went to Brick Lane but I do that nearly every Sunday so that also does not count.
I read a lot of magazines, I cleaned the house, I did washing, I cooked a nice dinner, but really I did nothing and it was good.
The only down side to doing nothing all weekend is that now I am tired , tired from nothing.
I have officially done no work today, I mean I have been as productive today as I usually am on a Friday when I have a hangover,I have the attention span of a goldfish which equals heaps of googling and not alot else.
Try being one of only 2 Australians in an office that is rugby mad. People who I didn't know worked here have made the effort to come up to the 3rd floor from the 1st floor to say hello and send their commiserations.
Personally, I am not to fussed, but Murray my fellow Aussie from Bris Vegas who was talking it up all last Friday is crying into his keyboard.
I admit I didn't even watch the game, I was bleaching my bathroom at the time and forgot.
But on the same kind of wave length, something I am getting a bit sick of is being called mate. Normally this would not bother me but I have come to the conclusion that people are only calling me mate because I am Australian and they think that is what they have to do.
If I am in a group of people and everyone is being introduce there will be a ... 'How are you?', 'How do you do?' 'Nice to meet you?' and then I get...'How is it going mate?'
WTF! Just because I am from Australia does not mean you can only refer to me as mate, and when English people say it in posh English voices it sounds really stupid. My flatmate David is a big believer in this, I have never heard him talk to anyone else and call them mate but that is all he calls me and It is getting on my nerves big time.
Another thing, David spends alot of his time on the phone, I mean A LOT! He currently has 2 girlfriends, both who are a bit nuts and (other flatmate gave me the background gos, apparently one of them turned up to his work and went mental at him for being 5 mins late to meet her for lunch and he works in a cooperate accounting firm - nut case!) and they both call him ALL THE TIME. Since I have been at my place, the phone had never rung for me, that is ok, its has rung for Shaz(other flatmate) 2 times, it was her mum ,and its rings about 5 times a night every night for David.
It is now at a stage where me or Shaz do not answer the phone we just let it ring out or wait for David to get it. Last night, it was ringing and ringing and ringing so I answered it and it was one of his girlfriend and so I got up and hollered at David and he comes down the stairs ' Hi Mate, oh, is it for me?'... Are you kidding me??? Who the hell else is it going to be for, Batman? What a dope.
